How Protein Helps You Lose Weight

“Won’t protein make me bulky? I really don’t want bodybuilder’s arms. Protein and weight loss don’t go together.”

How many times have you heard this? Nowadays protein has been targeted as a muscle powder that only men use to get huuuge.

But that couldn’t be far enough from the truth.

Women NEED protein to help perform basic body functions, repair and build muscle tissue, and lose weight!

Now let me teach you the three reasons why protein and weight loss go together like peanut butter and jelly (the third reason will surprise you)!

Reason 1: Your Metabolism

When it comes to weight loss, your metabolism can be your best friend or worst enemy.

Your metabolism deals with the chemical reactions involved in sustaining life for your cells. This includes the process of burning those unwanted calories and converting them into energy.

Think of your metabolism as a calorie burning engine. The more that it works the more calories and fat you burn and convert into energy to keep you going.

Who wouldn’t want a revved-up engine?

Now that you know how wonderful a sped up metabolism can be for weight loss the real question is how does protein fit into it?

Your body uses more calories in the digestion of proteins compared to the digestion of carbohydrates. That is because protein has a greater thermic effect which means that a bigger portion of the calories gets burned during digestion.

This can be upwards of five times greater than carbs or fats!

To get your best protein and weight loss results you still need to be out there working out hard and smart to help you body get the most out of a boost in your metabolism.

Reason 2: Satisfy the Beast of Hunger

From the dawn of time to now there has been a common monster that has been lurking in the stomachs of everyone that has walked the earth.
