Date Night? 7 Active Ideas That Are Anything But Boring

preview-full-7-fit-fun-valentine-date-ideas

As a fitness focused company we’re always looking for healthier ways to spend our time in every aspect of our lives, including relationships. There’s a lot of research out there that points to the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the positive effect that fitness and various activities and hobbies can have on those relationships. So why not put that research into action and make your date nights really count? After all, the best way to show your people that you love them is to be around for a long time, and the gift of good health goes the distance in making sure that’s the case.

So, if you’re stuck in the rut of more traditional date night activities, use this list as inspiration to shake things up and get your buns moving together. Valentine’s Day is coming in hot and while you could always just Netflix and chill, it’d be even better to put down the remote and get your heart rate moving the old fashioned way.

With exercise, I mean.

Geez.

Although there are plenty of benefits to be had from ALL types of exercise… if you know what I mean (wink wink), but we can only endorse the PG ones so give this list a try!

7 Date Ideas That Won’t Make You Wish You Were At Home In Sweats Watching Netflix Instead…

1. Laser Tag

Maybe the last time you played laser tag was on that group date in college, so don’t be afraid to give it another try. Sure it’s dark and sweaty and maybe smells a little bit like teenage desperation, but it’s also guaranteed to get your heart rate up and get you moving, while having a little fun living out all your Jason Bourne dreams come true. Tactical rolls and evasive maneuvers, people. BUCKLE UP! Plus, a little healthy competition is good for every relationship, right? Who doesn’t love the opportunity to work out a little pent up rage by teaming up for a little laser beam action? Sounds like the perfect date to me.

2. Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is the perfect activity to do with a partner because a. If you freeze to death someone can hike out and get others to help them retrieve the body. And b. There’s all that nature, fresh air, and quality time spent with someone you love (or care deeply about if you’re working out commitment issues, whatever). Obviously this only works if you’ve got snow to shoe through, so if that’s what it looks like in your part of the world then get out there! Snowshoe rentals are cheap at your local outdoor recreation outfitter, and if you decide you like it they’re fairly affordable to purchase too. If you’ve still got warm weather then swap snowshoeing for hiking and it’s pretty much the same difference. Adventure is out there!

Skip the gym, keep the workout clothes, and hit the trampoline park instead. Trampolines are basically the original HIIT workout so go grab your significant other and have some FUN! Plus, you’ll burn through more calories in an hour than you did in your last stairclimber session and all in the name of love. BONUS!

4. Dance Class

Remember that it literally takes two to tango so why not learn how to do it right? Tango, I mean. Sign up for a dance class at a local studio or YMCA and get your partner on board. Long before the days of dinner and a movie, dancing was the activity of choice for most of our grandparents, and maybe some of our parents which is cool because dancing is basically group fitness before group fitness became a thing. Slap on some dancing shoes and buckle up, it’s twinkle toe time.beach yoga

5. Yoga

Don’t write yoga off if you’ve never done it before and take it for what it is instead: guided stretching in a quiet room with nobody asking you for anything except deep breaths. You can bend if you want to, or take an hour long nap if you don’t. Give some partner poses a try after class when you’re all limbered up and ready for some connection with your special someone. Get some good ideas on partner poses here and here.

6. Top Golf

Maybe don’t get any grand ideas about going on the PGA Tour after this experience, but if you haven’t been on a date to Top Golf yet, you’re definitely missing out. It’s all the fun of golf without any of the boring, and significantly less khaki, plus a full menu of tasty beverages and food too. Top Golf has a ton of different games you can play with a partner or with a group, and it doesn’t really matter if you’re coordinated enough to hit a golf ball consistently on a regular golf course (I’m sure not), you can play and have fun anyway. Top Golf is a bomb idea for a date and you’ll definitely get in a good core, back and arm workout too, not to mention your biceps from flexing all those skills on your significant other.

7. Batting Cages

I saved the best for last because a few hours at the batting cages is pretty much the best way to spend a few hours with someone you care about. Don’t underestimate how cathartic a night at the batting cages can be, bring all your troubles and stresses for the week (or month or year) and swing away. Bring yourself a batting partner to help keep your swing in check and you’ll have more fun than you’ve had in years, promise! Plus, you’ll be working muscles you forgot you had and in all the right ways. Keep your eye on the ball and swing away!

Not Another Night At The Movies

Not every date has to be a big deal and some of the best are those times when you just get out and get moving together, no matter the activity of choice. The fit life is the healthy life, and the healthy life is the happy life and it’s even better when you’re healthy together.
