When you have a real reason for change, it will stick. At IdealFit our why is to “Help Transform and Improve Lives.” We always ask our challengers what their “why” is. When you can figure out the real reason for changing, going beyond the esthetics, you will get so much more out of your challenge. For Sondra, her “Why” was seeing her dad in the hospital. That was her turning point. Right then she decided it was time to make a change. The next day she started on her journey to becoming healthier and happier. Sondra has now lost 23 pounds and 17.5 inches, and she isn’t stopping anytime soon.
But while that was her catalyst, her reason for change went even deeper than that. Here’s Sondra’s story.
“I had spent the past 15 or so years putting everyone ahead of me. My job, my husband, and then my kids. It feels good (to a point) to be needed, to be relied upon. But at a certain point, that can turn to bitterness, defensiveness, and also at some point, I had actually given up taking care of me — like I literally said to myself, “I’m just not going to do that, I’ll do it later.” So my state of mind had gone, I don’t know, apathetic? And I had all the rationalizations in the world about the fit people around me and how they had the time, their situations were different, I didn’t really want that. But, I REALLY DID want that.
And then my own dad got sick with cancer. First prostate cancer, which he beat. But then an appointment resulted in discovering pneumonia and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This was a much harder hill to climb… My mom was there too. He was in decent spirits — but struggling to breathe. The doctor came in and congratulated my dad on “robbing the cradle” (referring to my mom). My mom is 81 and my dad 84.
My mom, around age 48 (my age….), changed her life completely: eating basically vegetarian, going to the gym every day, taking time to learn new things just for herself. At 81, she is the picture of health – almost boundless energy, mentally strong, and able to give my dad the care he needs.
That was a turning point for me.
IdealFit and Lindsey’s 15 Day Fit Body Challenge came just at the right time for me. At a time I felt bad about myself, physically and emotionally — and also had just experienced that day in the hospital with my parents. It was exactly the right program with exactly the right amount of support for me, and I had exactly the right amount of motivation that day.
There definitely were days when I was tired, when I “didn’t wanna,” but I told myself it’s only 15 days, and I was on the FB pages, and all of it together…it totally works for me.
At the end of the 1st round I discovered the 6 Week Fit Body Challenge. I did a second round of the 15 Day Challenge, then switched over to the 6 Week Challenge, keeping the IdealLean Protein and adding IdealLean Burner, IdealLean CLA, and IdealLean Nighttime Probiotics and sticking to the meal plans.
I was on a mission, I settled into a place in my mind where I said, “I am just going to do this. i’m going to be happy. I’m going to do what it takes and take it in stride.”
I became active in the Facebook group and made friends – we whine and complain and cry sometimes…but what’s most important is how we support each other through the harder times, encourage each other to keep going, praise each other’s progress, share about our lives.
That was transformative for me – a community that is so real and so full of wonderful, amazing, generous, thoughtful women that I could access without having to get in my car and take precious time coordinating.
