10 Smart Fitness Hacks: Ways to Work Smarter, Not Harder for Great Results
1. HIIT it, Then Quit It
Swap your standard cardio for HIIT training. HIIT workouts (High-Intensity Interval Training) can achieve the same results as traditional cardio training— but in 1/5th the time! That’s right: this study found that just 10 minutes of HIIT intervals are just as effective as 50 minutes on a bike! That means you can have a quick endorphin rush fast and get in, get out, and get results. 🙂

2. Stash Some Fitness Supplies
If you’re not the morning-workout type, or have a different schedule, try stashing some workout gear and healthy snacks. Good spots are in your car, work desk, school locker, or wherever you might end up.
With a workout outfit, headphones, water bottle, and a pre/post-workout snack ready to go, you’ll be able to beat cravings and squeeze in a workout even on busy days.
3. Drink that Water!
Ladies, drink up: getting enough water is critical if you want to see any kind of results at all. There is some disagreement on how much is enough, but 8 glasses a day is a great place to start.
You’ll seriously feel so much better when you’re hydrated. Here’s some ways to make sure you’re getting your water in:
- Infused “Spa” Water — Add some fresh fruit or herbs to your bottle! The hint of flavor makes it a ton easier to drink, and you can up your fruit intake too. Swap your soda out today, you’ll feel like you’re sipping in a high-end spa, even if you’re just stuck in traffic.
Here’s a few faves of mine:
- Strawberry + Lemon
- Cucumber + Mint + Melon
- Orange + Blueberry + Basil
- Pro Tip: Freeze your fruit first, they’re like tasty little ice cubes 🙂
- Track Your Water Intake — Whether you mark up your jug, tally your bottle fills, or even use your smartphone, creating some accountability will go a long way.
4. Wake Up Wearing Workout Clothes
If you’re a morning exerciser, what could be easier? You’ll wake up ready for a quick workout. Just roll out of bed, rock the messy bun, and you’re set. The more you can cut out potential excuses, the easier it will be to stay consistent. That’s how you get results.

Even if you’re stuck in a cubicle for 8 hours a day, there are still some workday fitness hacks that you can use! Try parking farther away, and take the stairs up to your office instead of the elevator. These may seem too small to make a difference, but this babe lost 30 lbs. after kick-starting her lifestyle taking the stairs to work!
Here at IdealFit, our hard-working social media team takes a quick exercise break every hour. They’ll jump up and do some squats, lunges, push-ups, whatever! You could do the same at your desk, or take a walk once in awhile.
6. Plan Your Playlists
Got a 30-minute workout planned? Create a playlist of songs just long enough to last. You’ll save time and focus by not checking the clock all the time.
And make sure you’ve got the right tunes, whatever your workout. I like up-tempo tunes because they help get my heart rate up and keep me moving, even if I’m exhausted. For cooling down or yoga, slower songs may be the way to go.
7. Prep: My Favorite 4-Letter Word
Meal prepping is a huge-time saver! I mean, cook once and eat for days? Sign me up!
Try freezing baggies with a banana, some spinach, blueberries, almond butter and a scoop of IdealLean French Vanilla Protein. Just pour one in your blender in the morning and add some almond milk. BOOM. Breakfast.
8. Compound Movements
Compound movements involve multiple muscle groups, and they can seriously increase both your muscle gains and fat loss! Think about it: what’s the best bang for your buck, isolation of one muscle at a time, or one exercise that hits lots of muscles at once?
I’m a big believer in squats to build the booty! Other great compound movements are presses, pull-ups, push-ups, lunges, there’s so many! Get creative, and if you don’t know how to do these moves with good form, get some help. Getting injured is not a smart fitness move!
9. Get a Coach— Free
